A few months ago, I was blessed to connect with a brother Jomo on facebook. Little did I know that we shared common vision as it relates to the time, and what must be done for our people. One of the chief meeting grounds in vision seemed like Divine Design, as it turned out that I and my community had been checking out land in Ghana for the purposes of moving there as Repatriates. Well it just so happened that Bro. Jomo arrived with a solution, for he heads an organization who's purpose is to assist in the repatriation process, on behalf of Africans from the Diaspora that are setting their gaze upon returning home. Here is the beginning of a conversation that I'm sure will continue..as well as become words put into action over the course of the next several months. Hetep! (Peace)
What is Black Star Foundation?
Star Black Foundation International is a youth voluntary organization that works in partnership with the Council of Chiefs to oversee the organization and development of the Repatriation lands.
What is Star Black Foundations Vision?
The objective of this collaboration is to assist the Diaspora in their aims of Repatriation, and to facilitate return by intervening on their behalf in the Realms of government, economics and society. Star Black Foundation International will provide assistance, resources and Materials where necessary with the repatriation process.
How important do you think it is for Africans and Africans in the Diaspora to unite and work together?
We can work together by uniting and building strong institutions to manage our resources, which can give jobs to our people. Most of our people in the diaspora have the skills which Africa needs for development, and with their involvement with those of us at home, we can become an economic power in the world.
How important do you think Re-patriation of Africans in the Diaspora to Africa is?
This very important because it will heal Africa (Including Diaspora) spiritually. It will also help in repatriating skills and capital to which we can network for the benefit of all.
How does Star Black Foundation assist in the Re-patriation of Africans in the Diaspora?
We assist in their aims of Repatriation, and facilitate their return by intervening on their behalf in the Realms of government, economics, and society. Star Black Foundation International will provide assistance, resources and materials where necessary with the repatriation process.
Stereotypes have caused greater division between our people due to many misconceptions. Because of this for example, many Africans in the Diaspora (especially America), have a notion that African on the continent don't like them or look down upon them, and I know this same misconception is held by many Africans in reverse, they have the Idea that Africans in the Diaspora don't like, and look down upon them. This has made ideas about returning home to Africa difficult. How does Star Black Foundation work to shatter these illusions and stereotypes?
That is why Star Black Foundation has setup Cultural Awareness classes, which is vital to everyone repatriating to the Mother Land. For even though we are one people, we have lived in foreign countries for many centuries. Overtime this experience has dulled some of our senses, removed us from our people, culture and natural environment. In the mean time we have adapted to a foreign people, environment and culture. Reacquainting ourselves with our parent culture will rekindle ancient bonds, and make it a lot easier to return to the paradigm of our mother culture. We expect members of the Diaspora who are repatriating to participate in our cultural awareness classes, which include languages, customs and traditions, cooking, arts and crafts, history, holistic healing, and African spiritualism. We are also organizing repatriation programs for the Chiefs, and the people, which will help our people to understand the importance of the repatriation.
What major events/goals are you and Star Black Foundation currently working on?
We have two major events next year. The SANKOFA AFRICA TOUR, AND MADE IN AFRICA EXHIBITION. The tour is setup to meet with the National House of Chiefs, Government, and Repatriation Lands and Projects. *(These tours may actually be combined.)
